Maple- Year 4 and 5

Welcome to Maple Class

There will be a change of focus during the Summer Term. We will be moving our attention from the Ancient Egyptians onto a new topic, the Tudors. We will start at the beginning of the Tudor period by re-enacting the Battle of Bosworth Field (1485). We’ll not only learn what the Tudors ate but will have a chance to make and taste recipes for ourselves. We’ll also learn about how the Tudors expanded our understanding of the world by exploring the Americas. Then we’ll get a chance to fully immerse ourselves in the Tudor period by visiting Gainsborough Old Hall, one of the most complete Tudor buildings left in the country.

In science we will move from what we learnt last term about blood and the circulation system, to a focus on nature and the animal kingdom, as we investigate living things and their habitats.

This academic year, we have read some amazing books in Maple class, and this term will be no exception, as we take a magical journey with Harry Potter and his friends on the Hogwart’s express, in J. K Rowling’s first book; Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Maple Class spent a lot of time last term learning about fractions, decimals and percentages. This term, we’ll be taking that knowledge forward as we focus on different aspects of Geometry.

Our class assembly will be early this term (mid-May) and given the success we had with our Egyptian assembly, we’re already working hard to produce another great performance.

We’ve had a great year together so far, and can’t wait to update you on all the things we’ve done in our final term together.
